Teacher Portraits - Litchenstein Style

When the fourth graders were working on their self portraits (in the style of Roy Litchenstein) some of the teachers wanted to join in - even our principal, Mr. Proctor!!  While some of the student's did their teacher's portraits for them, a couple teachers did their own (Mr. Proctor and Mrs. McCammon).  I had to share!!

Movin' and Groovin' Figures

Check out these awesome life size figures that the fourth graders made.  These will hang as decorations for the "80s" themed Father/Daughter dance coming up in 2012.  The student's viewed some some embarrassing photographs of the 80's and all the popular trends of that era.  Neon everything, perms, flat tops, boom boxes, side pony tails, pegged jeans, I could go on and on... oh how I miss the 80s! ;)

Radial Symmetrical Names

I LOVE THESE!!!  The fifth graders did SUCH a great job on these!  I just love overhearing these comment's repeatedly in my art room, "Oh, cool", "Look at mine!", "Woah, awesome!", "Mrs. Kinner, look at what I did!"... melts my heart.  The kids especially loved their finished product because of the new shapes their symmetrical letters made.  Please enjoy!!

Close Up Animal Drawings

Artwork by Yerin, 5th grade

Recently, fifth grade students studied American artist, Georgia O’Keefe.  O’Keefe is known for being one of America’s most important modern artists.  In the 1920’s she was famous for her large flower paintings.  The children studied how she presented them up-close, as if the viewer was looking at them through a magnifying glass.  The students were inspired by her technique.  They created their own “close-up” drawings from actual pictures of animals and flowers.  After sketching out their pictures they colored them in with chalk.  They worked so hard and did such a wonderful job!

WOW! Is it December Already?

SO MUCH has happened in art lately!  First of all, the Art Fair was absolutely a success!  The gymnasium was completely transformed into an art gallery with artwork framed in the center and artwork covering the walls (not to mention the yummy refreshments provided by some awesome parents!).  I was so proud of EVERY student in the school, as EVERYONE had something in the show.  :)  It was a bit of a challenge getting that much artwork hung and framed, but the final product was such a huge reward!  I was so happy with how many families came out to support our children and the Arts.  Thank you, thank you to all of you who came out!  Also, a huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who helped set it up and tear down!  Here are some great photos taken by Mrs. Long:
